The Swim for Grand Traverse Bay wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful volunteers. If you love the Bay and want to help us put on a fun and successful event, consider volunteering your time.

We have two opportunities for experienced open water paddlers to help out with the Swim for Grand Traverse Bay on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Paddle Assist Crew
Join us on Swim day to be part of our Paddle Assist Crew. These paddlers will surround the field of swimmers and individual support kayakers, create additional visibility and monitor the water.

To join in, you must have your own kayak, stand up paddle board, canoe or surf ski and a personal flotation device and be ready for a 7:15 a.m. safety briefing Saturday, August 12.

Paddle Safety Squad
These paddlers will receive specialized training in self-rescue, swimmer safety and swimmer rescue and monitor the field of swimmers. To be part of this group, you must attend a Swim for GT Bay training (to be held in July or early August); have your own equipment, including 2 personal flotation devices, a bilge pump and a paddle float; and be ready for a 7:15 a.m. safety briefing Saturday, August 12. Email paddlers@swimforgtbay.com if you're interested in being part of the Safety Squad.

ALL VOLUNTEER PADDLERS MUST REGISTER (there is no cost) so we have an accurate participant count and your emergency contact information.

Volunteers are invited to enjoy the after-party immediately following the Swim at Clinch Park.
