August temperatures in northern Michigan average a high in the mid to upper 70s, with lows in the high 50s to early 60s. Expect water temperature to be in the upper 60s to low 70s, depending on how warm of a summer we have.

At this time, we do not provide refreshments at the starting point. There will be a light snacks such as granola bars, whole fruit, and water at the finish line.

Wet suits or technical suits are allowed, as well as other swimming gear. Flotation devices and equipment such as snorkels, fins and kickboards are also allowed.

Swimmers have one hour from the start time to complete the Kids Swim for Grand Traverse Bay. Swimmers remaining in the water after one hour will be assisted to shore.

Every effort will be made to hold the Kids Swim on the date and time its scheduled. We will swim in rain or shine! In the event of inclement weather (lightning, serious storm, or high winds) the event may be postponed in hopes the weather will pass. However, if the bad weather does not pass within an hour and swimmer safety comes into question, the event will be cancelled. If that is the case, there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. When you register for this event, you agree to this weather policy.

In the event of an emergency, non-motorized safety paddlers and motorized safety boats will be on the water to assist. Volunteers who are part of our safety squad are trained to notify the safety boats that will help swimmers in need during the Swim.

Public safety/emergency personnel will be available along the route and on the water, and at least one certified lifeguard will be on the water during the swim.
